If you are anything like me Christmas is getting real and shopping is unavoidable.  For those of us living in Birmingham or the surrounding areas a trip to The Summit is probably in the near future and I am here to help you out with a few tips and tricks to make your experience as pleasant and hassle free as possible.

For those of us that live near The Summit this may seem like a no brainer, but for those of you traveling in from out of town to shop, did you know there is a back entrance to The Summit?  Avoid the long line in the turn lane on 280.  Turn off of 280 at Dolly Ridge Road and head into Cahaba Heights.  Once you hit the intersection of Dolly Ridge and Cahaba Heights Road make a right and travel down to Summit Boulevard on your right.  Boom you are there and coming up on the backside near Toys R Us and West Elm.  Speaking of West Elm, don’t forget there is a parking deck on the high side of The Summit behind Chuy’s.

During this holiday crunch time new store hours are in play.  Stores will open an hour early starting the 12 days before Christmas. Get your kids to school, get your workout over and head to The Summit before the crowds have started to form.

The last thing I want to do after a day of shopping is head to the grocery store and think about dinner.  Like most, the people at my house like to eat, so serving dinner is not optional.  Trader Joe’s is now open at The Summit and I have found a few super easy dinners that are amazing and approved by my family.  One option is to head to the frozen pizza section and pick up two of the Ham, Gruyere and Carmelized Onion Tarts.  They look just like a pizza but the crust is phyllo dough and it is super crunchy.  Serve this up with a salad and you are a rock star.  Or if you really want to make your family think you are an over achiever pick up Trader Joe’s Tomato Basil Soup (it is in a box), a can of chicken, and the Chimichurri Rice with Veggies and mix all together for an unbelievable soup that will keep them coming back for more.

Brand new to The Summit this year is The North Pole.  Located in Saks Plaza next to LOFT, The North Pole is home to Photos with Santa and The Summit’s Holiday Concierge. The Summit’s Holiday Concierge is available to make your Christmas experience Clark Griswold approved.  Complimentary gift wrapping services, with a suggested donation of $2 per item benefitting The Exceptional Foundation or The Junior League, are available Friday and Saturdays from 11am-8pm and Sundays from 11am-6pm, and there are no lines!  The week of Christmas, gift wrap services will be available Monday, December 21 through Wednesday, December 23 from 11am-8pm and Christmas Eve from 11am-2pm. Shoppers can also enjoy complimentary coffee and hot chocolate, provided by Sur La Table. The Summit gift cards, which can be used at all retailers, restaurants and the Carmike Cinema, are available for purchase at the Holiday Concierge.
