The reason a friend of mine suggested I start a blog in the first place is because I am a product junkie, and I am not shy when it comes to sharing my experiences involving the world of beauty products and procedures. Because I am like that, I am totally going make-up free with some angry skin in a few of these pictures to let you know about the Eclipse MicroPen Elite offered at MD Wellness and Aesthetics (formally InShape MD) in Birmingham. I am not a stranger to lasers or needles or chemical peels but this little procedure, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, is my new favorite. There is literally no down time. Like non-existent. There is no molting, no reptile like skin and no sunglasses needed in public. The Eclipse Elite is the next generation of MicroPens and when applied to the skin, hundreds of superficial micro-channels or mini-injuries are created every few seconds to stimulate the skin’s natural ability to heal itself. As a result, new collagen and elastin produce softer, firmer skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars and textural issues.
This whole event came about because lately I have been in some very serious conversations with several of my friends revolving around “skin.” We are deep like that and it seems as though everyone is looking for a reboot. When I first heard about the benefits, cost and quick recovery associated with the Eclipse MicroPen I called my BF in Atlanta. She has been a sales representative in the world of aesthetics and skin care for the past 15 years and knows every Plastic Surgeon, Dermatologist and Aesthetician in Buckhead. She is my go-to girl and expert witness. When she told me she had an appointment the next week I immediately called my friends at MD Wellness and Aesthetics and got on their books. After consulting with the owner Lela Campbell, I decided to have the procedure performed on my face, neck and chest. The Eclipse Elite MicroPen has been shown to boost collagen production by 200%, but if your own protein rich plasma (PRP) is used, collagen production is boosted by 1000%. Sign me up!
HOW IT WORKS
from start to finish the procedure is about an hour
1. A numbing cream is applied to the treatment areas for about 20 minutes to insure a high level of comfort. I was never in pain.
2. The numbing cream is removed and the practitioner will apply a thin layer of topical gel (hyaluronic acid or growth factors etc) to your skin and select the appropriate setting based on your unique needs. I chose to use my own PRP instead of a topical gel because protein rich plasma is loaded with your own growth factors that accelerate healing and tissue repair.
3. Next, in a single motion, the pen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered.
4. That is it and you are sent on your way. My face felt like it had a mild sunburn for a few hours but I went to dinner that night and one of my friends said, “I thought you were having something done today?”
I have mentioned more than once the lack of downtime, which is huge to me, but I don’t want to sell short the benefits of the MicroPen. The benefits of micro-needling are a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, younger-looking skin with fewer signs of aging. The Eclipse MicroPen Elite also has a positive effect on hyper-pigmentation as well as on hypo-pigmentation, acne scars, traumatic scars and stretch marks and generally creates a fresher appearance or glow to the skin. It also works wonders with hair restoration and can be used on all parts of the body.
Call my friends at MD Wellness and Aesthetics to set up a consultation and find out more about the Eclipse MicroPen Elite. Don’t miss out on their March specials. This month they will be offering a free treatment with the purchase of two treatments. That is a nice savings and face it, we are not getting any younger!

For the purposes of this blog post I have shown you pictures at the time of treatment, one day after and one week after treatment to show you how quick the recovery is. My skin does look better and it is crazy soft but the full benefits of the Eclipse Elite MicroPen will be seen at six months after two to three treatments. I will be updating this post after I have the next two treatments, but click here for more before and after pictures for the full aesthetic benefits and click on the video below to see the actual procedure.
This time I decided not to invest in having my own PRP be a part of the treatment. During the treatment everything was exactly the same. I was actually even more comfortable this treatment because I made sure the numbing cream was generously distributed around my eye area. The Eclipse can get closer to your eye that a laser. Bonus!
The two to three day recovery for my second treatment was different from my first. My skin stayed pinkish red much longer this time. It only makes sense since PRP contains my own growth factors that speed healing. In 5 days my skin was back to normal but the “no down time” did not apply this go round. I recommend PRP as part of the Eclipse Treatment
For my last treatment I was not going to go without using my own PRP. I was just coming off of a breakout because I had ventured away from my normal skincare routine in the name of blog research. I should know better than to stray from my normal routine because I am one of those people who breakout in a heartbeat and changing products is a disaster in the making. Anyway, things were getting back to normal and I knew that PRP therapy would only help to speed up the healing process! The only problem was that while I did return to my normal routine I might have gotten a little aggressive with the retinol product! I mean I know better. You don’t use a retinol before getting your brows waxed and you certainly don’t use it a week before a procedure. The folks at MD Wellness and Aesthetics told me this too, but I guess I thought I was above all of that. Whatever. I can be an idiot sometimes. While there was not a ton of post procedure redness, my skin did flake for a week after my last treatment.
I love the Eclipse Micropen Therapy. After three treatments my skin is smooth and feels great. I do use Xeomin for my deep wrinkles on my forehead and around my eyes, but the Micropen has seriously improved the texture and tone of my skin. My recommendation is to use your own PRP as part of each Micropen treatment and listen to the aesthetician when she tells you not to use a retinol a week before your treatment.
