Last week I attended the Gus Mayer Fall Fashion Preview Luncheon with several other bloggers in Birmingham.  The buyers at Gus treated us to a presentation featuring the hot trends for Fall.  I love that all of the buyers live right here in Birmingham and really know what will fly in the Birmingham market.

Nancy Nagrodzki, the Accessories and Handbag buyer, showed us beautiful scarves in floral and digital prints that come in all shapes and sizes.  Ponchos and capes are in with lots of details and fringe.  Raincoats are available in classic military shapes with contrasting linings as well as sophisticated animal prints.  Leather jackets are hot this season and biker chic is the inspiration with zippers and asymmetrical lines.  Gus Mayer carries several handbag lines, such as Tory Burch, Rebecca Minkoff, Hammit Los Angeles and Kooba.  The shape of bags runs the gamut from bucket bags and backpacks to classic clutches and chain bags.  Crossbody bags and wristlets are still hot and fanny packs, yes fanny packs, are back.  Shearling and leather work together to create beautiful mixed media handbags and animal prints and fringe are everywhere.

The buyer for Contemporary, Ready to Wear and Denim, Cami Krablin, was excited to share with us her favorite looks for the Fall.  As far as demin goes, Cami says to wear the cut that fits you best and know that distressed denim is a major trend this season.  Boyfriend jeans are still around and if you like a colored jean make sure it is leather or coated.  70’s rocker style with a Janis Joplin feel is a huge look.  You will find dark florals, fur vests, leather, grommets and fringe lining the racks.  Look for pieces with tons of details and channel your inner Stevie Nicks by mixing leather and lace.

Gus Mayer’s Girls Night Out is this coming Tuesday, September 16th from 4:00-8:00 pm.  The event will benefit the Greater Birmingham Humane Society with giveaways including $750, $500, and $250 Gus Mayer gift cards.  There will be music, libations and hors d’oeuvres and enjoy tax free shopping all day.

Gus Mayer is my splurge. (Sh-s-s, Buffy, don’t tell Bobby Mac.)

Diane it is our little secret.

Makes me want cooler fall weather! AND to shop!!!! :)

I wish we could have this same event at the Nashville store! I volunteer at the Nashville Humane Association and would love to see this partnership, along with Tina Adams Consulting! Great post, Buffy!
