Again, quick reminder here that I am in no way getting paid to post anything on this blog….yet. HelloFresh.com is just something I think everyone needs to know about.
I really do love to cook, I just don’t like to go to the grocery store or come up with the answer to the question “What’s for dinner?” night after night. I have been known on more than one occasion to whip in to my neighborhood Publix Supermarket, head over to their Apron’s cooking demo and buy all of the ingredients for the “recipe of the day” that they have conveniently placed in the Apron’s refrigerator. I have no complaints about this super convenient service other than having some really random full size ingredients, like a McCormick Mesquite Grill Mates or a Ken’s Low-Cal Sweet Onion Salad Dressing, left over in my spice drawer or fridge never to be used again.
A few month’s ago I received a Hello Fresh gift card in my swag bag from Saks Beauty Week and I decided to give it a try. Hello Fresh delivers all the fresh ingredients for three meals (choose for 2 or 4 people) weekly to your door. All the food comes in a cooler with ice packs to keep the meat and produce cold during shipping. It contains easy to follow recipe cards for each meal and if it calls for one bay leaf, they send you one bay leaf, two garlic cloves, you get two garlic cloves. Even the spices are premeasured in little packets. There is literally no waste or randomness left over to sit in your pantry waiting for your next clean-out.
I signed up on-line and chose the Classic Box for four (they have a Veggie Box option as well). The amount of food that comes easily feeds my family of six. There is no membership fee, you can skip the weeks you need and an email is sent several days before your box is to ship to choose your three recipes from five options. The cost is $129 for four people and $69 for two people. I don’t know that I have ever gotten out of the grocery store for less than that amount for three meals and the only staples I have used from my own stash have been salt, pepper and olive oil.
A Few Pointers
-The produce is super fresh and will last a while in your fridge.
-The meat is packaged so it can easily be frozen if you do not intend to use it right away.
-The beef and chicken have been very tender but I usually do not choose fish. I am a fan of really fresh seafood available at my local seafood market.
-Delivery is always on Wednesday so I usually cook the dinners on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday nights.
-Use the calendar on the Hello Fresh website to schedule the weeks you don’t need a box and you can cancel the service at anytime.
-Hello Fresh delivers to most of the United States. Click here to check for delivery in your area.
