Hola! In honor of National Tequila Day I have partnered up with Patron and my favorite mixologist, Steva Casey, to bring you a delicious, and I mean delicious tequila cocktail. Do not be turned off by the combination of ingredients because they seemed odd to me at first too. Let’s just say opposites attract. Everyone that I had taste test this was blown away. Also, don’t think you can take a short cut and use grapefruit juice from the store. I’ve tried this drink both ways and fresh squeezed ruby reds are the only way to go.
1.5 ounces of Patron Silver Tequila
1 ounce honey pepper syrup
2 ounces fresh squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice
2 ounces sparkling wine or champagne
To make the syrup combine 1 cup of local honey and 1 cup of water in a medium sauce pan and simmer on low until the honey is dissolved. Add 2 teaspoons of cracked black pepper. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add Patron Silver Tequila, syrup and grapefruit juice. Shake and strain mixture into a champagne flute and top with bubbly. Ole.
Side Note. When Steva gave me this recipe she did not give it a name. I made a batch for my brother this week and his comment, as always when he thinks things are good, was “honey hush.” Boom.
