The past 6 times Alabama has played LSU in Tiger Stadium I have been there. I have been there when it was freezing cold and when it is blazing hot. I have watched Alabama lose and pull out a win in the last minute in Baton Rouge. I have been to one game in Death Valley dead sober and pregnant and others not so much. However, one thing has remained consistent…those folks know how to put on a party, cook some amazing food and have a good time, win or lose. My friend Lauryn is from Baton Rouge and is an avid Tiger Fan, her husband Jim is the biggest Bammer ever, (see their Tuscaloosa Game Day House here) so every year Alabama plays down there we make the trek to Baton Rouge. With Lauryn and her mom Nancy acting as our ambassadors, we receive the warmest welcome and get to eat some of the best and most authentic Cajun food you have ever tasted.

Pastalaya, Jambalaya, Frog Leg Gumbo, Duck Gumbo, Traditional Gumbo, Grilled Quail, Ribs, Corndogs, Wings, Kabobs, Boudin…you name it, and the tailgate that we are privileged enough to get to hang out in, serves it up. This tailgate hosted by Turner Industries, has their own DJ spinning the tunes and begins their cooking process long before Les Miles wakes up, is serving up all types of gumbo as the game goes on and is still going strong long after us amateurs are in bed. It’s not just big games that this happens, it is every game and every year one lucky away game is chosen to be graced with the presence of “The Tail Gate.” I’m sure you might be thinking you have been to some fantastic tailgates with fancy spreads and a matrix of tents, but until you experience a dose of dem tigas you haven’t truly lived SEC football on game day.

So yes Aubs, for one brief moment I am jealous of you. But let’s get this clear, it is a brief and fleeting jealousy, and it is only because this weekend you get the chance to experience LSU on game day.

Roll Tide!

Agree!! With every bit of it! So, so much fun down in BR. GDFR!

Very nice article. I love me some Lauryn Pollard Walker, but not enough to support the wrong tigers…WDE

Buff, it really is a great post, but you had me at, “Jim Walker.”

I met Lauryn, one time, years ago, at your house and thought she was bright, cheery, and just an all-around lovely person. We had an exceptionally fun night!

I met Jim in 1988 and, though I haven’t seen him since three forevers ago, the mere mention of his name makes me grin from ear to ear! It’s like a little ray of sunshine strikes my heart. He is simply one of my favorites!

The writing is excellent, and I thank you for the smile!
