One of the best things about my retirement from selling pharmaceuticals, aside from being able to get in on the competitive volunteering that takes place at my childrens’ schools, is the fact that I don’t have to worry with a “professional” wardrobe anymore. When its warm I wear shorts and when its cold I wear jeans, and I usually pair both with a cute top and jacket if needed.  So, I am pumped that Birmingham has a new player in the boutique game.  Fab’rik,  an Atlanta based affordable luxury boutique chain with 30 locations in the Southeast, will open its doors in Homewood on Friday, August 8th at 10 a.m.  All are invited to the Grand Opening Party tonight August 7th from 5-7 with champagne, lite bites and giveaways.

Last night I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at the store and I was blown away.  It is located at 1817-B 29th Avenue South in Homewood (next to Dave’s Pizza) and even though the girls of Fab’rik were hustling to get the boutique ready for tonight, the shop’s inviting environment and the owners’ gracious attitudes made me feel like I was the only person in the room.  I was received with a warm welcome and guided around the spacious boutique filled with dresses and skirts, rompers, blouses and accessories, all at price points under $100, and stacks and stacks of premium denim.  Owner Melissa Mistrot, of Homewood, and her partners in Fab’rik all have a background in fashion merchandising or marketing.  They live up to their mission statement of “no attitude and no sticker shock” and have done an exceptional job in bringing this franchise to Birmingham.

In addition to the personal attention Fab’rik is known for, the boutique also offers a limited amount of sizes of each style on their floor, so seeing yourself around town is unlikely.

Fab’rik is a unique business model in that it gives back to the community.  The Homewood location has already partnered with the Birmingham Junior League and other non-profits in Birmingham to promote programs using Fab’rik as a backdrop.  Be on the lookout on Facebook for upcoming events.
