Several months ago I was having the “What is the one beauty item you can’t live without?” conversation with a few of my friends. Your “desert island product” if you will. I didn’t even hesitate. The one thing I will not go without is my Anastasia Brow Wiz Brow Pencil. It is an ultrathin mechanical pencil on one end for filling in sparse areas and a spoolie on the other end that blends in your pencil strokes.
I started filling in my brows several years ago and a friend of mine asked me why I looked younger. The only thing I had done differently was filling in my brows. Seriously, go back and look at your senior protriat. I was overwaxing back then and my brows were still thicker than they are now.
If you are afraid to, or clueless on how to fill in your brows you need to make an appointment at an Anastasia Brow Studio in Nordstrom or if you are in New York City you need to find my friend Sabria, The Eyebrow Guru. Sabria came to Birmingham in the spring and told us all to quit waxing and start growing out and filling in our brows. Fabrik Homewood and I are hoping to have her back in the fall for another Brow Event. I will keep you posted. Read the post here on Sabria’s Tips.
I use soft brown in the Brow Wiz, but if you are struggling to find the right shade for you Sabria says go with the Dior Universal Brow Pencil
I first read about Charlotte Tilbury’s Five Star Mascara from my friends at stylebriefs, but I was hot on Make Up For Ever’s Smokey Extravaganza at the time. I had just done a post on it and I was pretty sure I had the whole mascara thing figured out. However, over Spring Break I was in New York with Tim and the girls, and Virginia needed a new tube of mascara. We ventured to Bergdorf’s to the Charlotte Tilbury counter and Armando schooled us in how to apply this highly touted mascara that honestly gives you dramatic lashes that look soft and natural. Virginia, who does have amazing eyelashes anyway, looked like a magazine ad for mascara. While this mascara promises to curl, separate and add length, volume and drama it must be properly applied. Click here for a video tutorial by Charlotte on the proper technique and the package also comes with detailed instructions.
While Armando was packaging up THREE tubes of mascara I was perusing the rest of Charlotte’s line and asked about her eyelash curler. He informed me that Kevin Aucoin’s eyelash curler was his preference.
I recently picked one up at Gus Mayer (they are the only store in Birmingham that carries Kevin Aucoin) and let me just tell you, this product falls into the same category as the Beauty Blender. Do you remember when thought you had a Beauty Blender and you really only had a makeup sponge? You may have an eyelash curler that strongly resembles a Kevin Aucoin, but like an antonym, they ain’t the same!
Mechanically, I can’t tell you what makes this curler so different, but this sucker is amazing. It costs around $20 and comes with a replacement red silicone pad that doubles the life of your curler
Okay I’ve told you a few of my faves. What can’t you live without? Leave a comment below and let me know. I’m always on the lookout for the latest and greatest.
